If you are hoping to photograph during cherry blossom season, autumn foliage, a Japanese holiday period, or on a particularly meaningful date, beginning six to twelve months in advance gives you more flexibility.
Even if your trip is approaching, it is still worth asking. Last-minute availability may sometimes be possible.

A simple booking guide would be:
Regular seasons: approximately 3–6 months in advance
Cherry blossom or autumn season: approximately 6–12 months in advance
Snow season in Hokkaido: approximately 4–8 months in advance
Weekdays or flexible dates: sometimes possible with shorter notice

Because the exact flowering dates depend on the weather, no photographer can guarantee that the blossoms will reach full bloom on a particular day.
We recommend contacting us around six to twelve months ahead, keeping the photography date flexible when possible, and considering more than one suitable spring location.
Even before or after full bloom, Japan still offers soft seasonal colours, fresh greenery and elegant spring landscapes.
What About Autumn Foliage?
Autumn is another popular season, especially in Kyoto, Nara, Mount Fuji and Hokkaido.
Foliage timing differs by region and altitude. Hokkaido usually changes colour earlier, while Kyoto and Tokyo tend to reach their autumn atmosphere later.
Planning six to twelve months ahead is particularly helpful if you prefer a weekend, a specific shrine or temple, traditional wedding kimono, several locations in one day, or a particular photography team.
As with cherry blossoms, seasonal colour is influenced by the weather and cannot be guaranteed for one exact date.
How Early Should You Book a Mount Fuji Photoshoot?
Mount Fuji can be photographed throughout the year, and every season offers a different atmosphere.
Mount Fuji’s visibility depends on the weather. Even when a photoshoot is booked well in advance, clear mountain views cannot be guaranteed.
Earlier booking allows us to discuss seasonal locations, plan several photography stops, arrange a comfortable transportation schedule, and consider alternative compositions if the mountain is hidden.
Booking early gives us more planning flexibility—but it does not control the weather.
Do Shrine and Temple Photoshoots Require More Time?
Some shrines, temples, gardens and cultural properties require advance photography permission.

A photoshoot with shorter notice may still be possible when your dates are flexible, you are available on a weekday, you require only one location, your outfits are already prepared, or the selected location does not require a lengthy permit process.
