The best choice is not simply city versus beach—it is deciding how you want the photographs to move from one atmosphere to the next.

Choose Tokyo if you want the greatest variety within one city: landmarks, historic architecture, gardens, parks, waterfront scenery and both wedding-dress and kimono photography.
Choose Kamakura if the ocean, Enoden railway, sunset light and a slower coastal atmosphere feel most like you.
Choose Yokohama if you prefer a spacious waterfront city with historic buildings, Minato Mirai and a more refined, modern mood.
Choose both city and coast if contrast matters to you—and if you are comfortable selecting fewer locations so the route remains enjoyable.
Tokyo: Variety, Energy and Flexible Styling
Tokyo is the strongest choice when you do not want every photograph to have the same atmosphere. A single day can move from landmark views and modern streets to a quiet park, waterfront area or traditional garden.
Tokyo Tower and Marunouchi create a recognizable city story, while parks such as Shiba Park or Kasai Rinkai Park add greenery and open space. Selected Japanese gardens and shrine settings also make kimono photography possible without leaving Tokyo.

Tokyo looks compact on a map, but traffic, parking and walking between viewpoints can take longer than expected. Famous places also change character through the day as commuters and visitors arrive.

Kamakura: Coast, Enoden and a Slower Rhythm

Shichirigahama and Inamuragasaki are especially strong for wedding dresses and flowing veils. Kamakura can also support traditional kimono photography around selected shrines, temples and bamboo scenery, giving the destination more range than only a beach shoot.

The Important Kamakura Consideration: Wind, Tide and Timing
Coastal photography is naturally affected by wind, waves, tide and cloud. These conditions can create beautiful movement, but they also make exact recreations impossible.
Sunset is often the emotional high point of a Kamakura route, so the earlier locations and travel time should be planned backwards from the light—not added without a clear order.
Yokohama: Waterfront City, History and Modern Light
Yokohama sits between Tokyo’s metropolitan polish and Kamakura’s open coast. Minato Mirai, the Red Brick Warehouse, Bashamichi and Osanbashi offer a spacious city feeling with water, historic architecture and evening light.
It works especially well for couples who want an urban look without the density of central Tokyo, or who want to finish a coastal day with a more elegant night-time chapter.
Yokohama may suit you if…

Can You Combine Them in One Day?
Yes—but the answer depends on how many locations you choose. A full-day route can sometimes combine one carefully selected Tokyo location with Kamakura and Yokohama, or focus on Kamakura and Yokohama as a natural coast-to-city sequence.
Trying to include every famous spot would create too much travel and too little photography. Most couples have a better experience by selecting three or four locations, then allowing us to design the timing, transportation and outfit transitions around them.
A particularly natural flow is Tokyo in the morning, Kamakura toward the afternoon and Yokohama near evening—but the final order should always follow the date, season, sunset and the exact locations selected.
