A full-day pre-wedding photoshoot in Japan is shaped by preparation, travel time, outfit changes, photography permits, seasonal light and a pace that allows every location to feel natural.

To make the process easier to picture, this guide follows a realistic Kyoto and Nara full-day route as one example—from morning preparation at Heart Art Kyoto to traditional Kyoto scenery, Arashiyama and the softer late-afternoon landscapes of Nara.

This is not a rigid minute-by-minute schedule. The final route is always adjusted around the couple’s outfits, selected locations, photography permits, traffic, crowds and seasonal light.

8:00 AM — Preparation at Heart Art Kyoto

The day begins at Heart Art Kyoto, where the couple can complete hair and makeup, choose accessories, and change into their first outfit.

Allowing approximately two hours keeps the preparation relaxed and gives the styling team enough time to adjust every detail before departure.

10:30 AM — Traditional Kyoto: Gion, a Shrine or a Temple

After leaving the studio at around 10:00 AM, the first photography session usually begins at approximately 10:30 AM.

Depending on the couple’s preferred atmosphere and the permits available, this first location may be Gion, a selected shrine or a temple. It is normally one carefully chosen area rather than trying to cover every traditional location at once.

Gion creates an unmistakably Kyoto feeling through stone lanes, wooden townhouses and historic streets. A shrine or temple offers a quieter setting with formal architecture, gardens and seasonal scenery.

11:30 AM — Lunch, Travel and Arashiyama

Around late morning, the schedule includes travel and a lunch break before continuing to the next area. This is an important part of a comfortable full-day shoot, especially when wearing a wedding dress or formal kimono.

Arashiyama is usually the second main photography area. Depending on the season and crowd conditions, the route may include the bamboo grove, riverside scenery or quieter traditional streets nearby.

After Arashiyama — Travel Directly to Nara

After the Arashiyama session, we do not need to return to the Kyoto studio. The couple and team travel directly to Nara, making the route more efficient and leaving space for the best late-afternoon light.

Around 4:00 PM — Nara Park or Mt. Wakakusa

The final photography area can be Nara Park or Mt. Wakakusa. The better choice depends on the couple’s preferred atmosphere, the season, weather and available daylight.

Nara Park is ideal for couples who enjoy open park scenery, historic surroundings and natural interactions with the deer. Mt. Wakakusa feels wider, quieter and more cinematic, especially when the sky and late-afternoon light are clear.

It is not necessary to photograph both places. Choosing one allows enough time to enjoy the setting without rushing.

6:00 PM — Wrapping Up and Returning to Kyoto

The photography usually finishes at around 6:00 PM. After packing the outfits and equipment, the group travels back to Kyoto together and normally arrives at around 7:00 PM, depending on traffic and the season.

A successful full-day photoshoot is not about visiting the largest possible number of places. It is about creating a natural rhythm between preparation, photography, travel, rest and the best light of the day.

What Happens Behind the Scenes?

Before the photoshoot, the team confirms the route, location permissions, transportation plan, meeting details and the order of the outfits.

During the day, we also adjust for crowds, walking distance, parking, weather and changing light. Small timing changes are normal and help the final photographs feel calm rather than rushed.

No. This timeline is a realistic example of a Kyoto and Nara full-day photoshoot, but the exact first location, permit requirements and final Nara setting can change according to the couple, the season and local conditions.
